The business of the Friends organization is managed by the Board of Directors, elected by the membership at the annual meeting. The Board consists of 8-16 members who serve in a voluntary capacity. Each member will be a resident of Idaho and a member of the Friends organization. The term of director is three years.

The business of the Friends organization is managed by the Board of Directors, elected by the membership at the annual meeting. The Board consists of 8-16 members who serve in a voluntary capacity. Each member will be a resident of Idaho and a member of the Friends organization. The term of director is three years.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Attend monthly Board meetings
• Attend annual meeting and special events sponsored by Friends
• Decide policy by annually reviewing and updating by-laws
• Establish an annual budget for the organization and The Shop at the Museum and Old Pen
• Establish short term and long term goals (strategic plan)
• Elect officers which includes President, Vice-president, Secretary and Treasurer
• Decide on other “ad hoc” committees to be maintained for upcoming year including but
not limited to: Brown Bag Lectures, Museum Comes to Life, Membership, Fund-raising,

• Serve on or chair at least one committee
• Help bring the resources of the organization together to help it grow
• Work to recruit new Board members
• Serve on or chair at least one committee

General Duties
• Be an advocate for the Museum and for preservation of the history of the state of Idaho
• Participate with other Board members to complete goals established by the organization
• Work with other Board members to involve membership more fully
• Advocate for our role in the community --- the link between the Museum and the community

The Friends, a not-for-profit organization, promote the appreciation of Idaho history through educational programs and preservation of historical collections by developing and performing fund-raising projects and service activities in support and for the benefit of the Idaho State Historical Museum.
